What is
Reflexology?
Reflexology is a non-invasive holistic therapy in which techniques similar to acupressure and
massage are used on “reflex” points on the feet and/or hands. A Reflexologist subscribes to the concept
that the body is mirrored or “reflected” on the hands and feet and each of the reflex points represent a specific
part of the body. Thus, stimulation of the reflex points has an effect on the related part of the body. Reflexology can assist
the body to maintain good health or help attain good health through stimulation of the body’s own healing forces.
Through touch, the therapist’s hands
have the ability to detect imbalances in the feet, which indicate blockages or changes in the energy channels that run through
the body. By applying gentle pressure to these points with thumbs or fingers the therapist can stimulate the flow of
energy, clearing blockages and help the body to achieve its own state of equilibrium and good health.
It is well known that stress is a causative factor in many
different ailments. Reflexology gives the body “time-out”; a chance to relax, not only the body, but also the
mind and soul, and reduce these stress levels and therefore prevent further deterioration. It helps us take responsibility
for our own health.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy.
While it can be used as a beneficial treatment on its own, it can also be used in conjunction with other complementary and
holistic therapies as well as with conventional medical care.
What
are the benefits of Reflexology?
Reflexology
may help with a variety of conditions, including:
Reflexology has also been shown to reduce stress and absenteeism in the workplace. It is useful where other
parts of the body are too painful to treat directly.
Who
can benefit from Reflexology?
Reflexology can be used to treat people of all ages, from babies to the very
elderly. Additional, Vertical Reflex Therapy is a short treatment which is useful for trating children quickly and effectively.
Is Reflexology safe during pregnancy?
Apart from a few special
cases, Reflexology is a safe, effective therapy during pregnancy. It can help with a number of conditions that sometimes
occur during pregnancy, such as oedema, symphysis pubis dysfunction and hypertension. Regular Reflexology treatments
during pregnancy have been shown to shorten labour time and feel wonderful for the new mother or mother-to-be, whilst providing
a healing sense of touch.
What is Vertical
Reflex Therapy?
VRT is especially effective for musculoskeletal problems and hormonal imbalances. It is a five-minute treatment
which can be used in its own right for treating large numbers of people, eg in the workplace or sports teams. Alternatively,
it can be used as an adjunct to a conventional Reflexology treatment.
What
does a treatment involve?
A complete medical and lifestyle history is taken, allowing you to discuss any matters of concern.
This is completely confidential and allows treatment to be tailored to your own individual needs.
At the end of
treatment, appropriate exercises and acupressure points may be shown so that you can continue to help yourself at home.
